Fun Things To Do

If you're going to be around long enough to explore, Blairsville is known for just a few things, but they are enough to keep you entertained, deep south style, for a few days. Here are the highlights:

Taking in the Gorgeous Scenery: from mountains to waterfalls to fishing, the Chattahoochee National Forest provides dozens of close-by and wonderful activities.
Here are a few to try:
o   Hike up Blood Mountain to get some of the best views around. We'll do a group hike up to the peak on Saturday. Pretty strenuous -- basically two miles of straight uphill.
o   Hike to Brasstown Bald. The highest peak in Georgia, with great views. A quick, paved walk to the top from the parking lot.
o   Helton Creek Falls. A short walk to a gorgeous set of falls.

The Sorghum Festival , which will actually be taking place over the weekend of our wedding. Includes biscuit eating contests, square dancing and greased pole climbing contests. Beware -- it's a little cheesy. But there's fun to be had.

Recreating at Vogel State Park: Vogel offers all kinds of great things to do, from feeding ducks to paddle boating to hiking to putt-putt golf. More info here.

Golfing/Hiking/ Dining in style at Brasstown Valley Resort:This is the most upscale place around, but still pretty affordable and offers lots of great activities. Beautiful hiking trails (free), a nice golf course, a sports bar, pool tables, and more.

Downtown Blue Ridge: this cute downtown offers nice restaurants, antique stores and other fun shopping experiences.

Campbell Folk School: This beautiful school offers classes on all kinds of mountain arts and crafts; you can go and visit the museum and gift shop. Nearby is Clay's Corner, a gas station with lots of cool nic-nacks. Also home to the Dropping of the 'Possum.
